4. What is the total number of seats for foreign nationals?

Students will be admitted over and above the approved intake in a course up to a maximum of 15% of the approved intake in each course. All the available seats may not be filled in a particular year if a subject's Admission Committee does not recommend anyone or if a program has inadequate infrastructure.

5. What are the eligibility requirements for admission?

A prospective International student has to fulfill the eligibility conditions, including the required qualifying degree and marks/grades, as prescribed for Indian students. These conditions can be found in the prospectus which is available on the University website. In case a student's parent University does not have a program which is prescribed as minimum eligibility condition, equivalent program may be considered. In this respect the Admissions Committee's decision is final.
• English proficiency: Proof of English proficiency is essential for a candidate who is a graduate from a University located in a non-English-speaking country. Such a candidate has to provide one of the following two scores. The score should not be older than two years.

i. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic version - minimum score of 6.5 is required.

ii. Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    • Paper-based TOEFL: a minimum score of 560 is required.
    • Computer-based TOEFL: a minimum score of 220 is required.
    • Internet-based TOEFL: a minimum score of 80 is required.

Additional requirements for Computer Sciences:


Foreign candidates seeking admission to M.Tech. (CS/AI/IT) program are exempted from the GATE qualification.


• GRE score is to be submitted at the time of application;
• students residing in India have to appear for an Interview.

Additional requirements for M.Tech. Bioinformatics, Integrated Ph.D. Biotechnology and Ph.D. Biotechnology programs:

  1. Candidates should have GRE score:
       a. Verbal Reasoning score, at least 500;
       b. Quantitative Reasoning score, at least 500;
       c. an Analytical Writing score, at least 4;
       d. Subject score with at least 600 and sub-score in Biochemistry, Cell
    and Molecular Biology, at least 60

  2. If candidate is available in India he/she will be required to appear for an interview. Letters of recommendation should clearly mention the knowledge of candidate in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.

6. When do I apply?

International students may apply for admission anytime during the year. However, the deadline for being considered for any academic year (which generally begins in mid-July) is April 1 of that year. The decision of Admissions Committee will be intimated to the candidate by May 31.

8. What are the documents required to be submitted along with the application?

  • Transcripts from High School onwards with certified English translation, if the documents are in any other languages

9. Whom to send the application?

However, candidates sponsored by agencies like ICCR should send the application through the sponsoring agencies, which has to forward the application to the above address by the specified deadline.

10. Once I apply what will happen?

All the applications shall be scrutinized by an Admissions Committee of the School/Department/Centre concerned. The recommendation of the Admissions Committee is forwarded to the Vice-Chancellor for approval. Intimation of admission is sent to the selected candidates by the Office of International Affairs, University of Hyderabad.

11. Where is UoH?

The University is situated in Gachibowli area on the old Hyderabad-Bombay road. It is 35 km from the Shamshabad Airport, 26km from Secunderabad Railway Station and 20 km from Hyderabad Railway Station.

12. Climate

The best time of the year to visit Hyderabad is during the winter months (November to February), when the climate is pleasant 13°-33°C. Summers (March to May) are quite hot with the mercury rising up to 40°-41°C. Monsoons (June to October) are sultry yet fun for those who enjoy rains.

13. What medical facilities are available to students admitted?

All the prospective students are required to buy an appropriate health insurance policy before arriving in India. It is essential that the students' health insurance policy remains valid throughout the period of the students' stay in the University. However, primary health care facility is available, free of cost, at the UoH Health Centre.

14. Who should I contact for details regarding admission?

A Candidate selected for admission is required to report to the Personal Assistant, Office of International Affairs of the University with the following documents, in original, along with one photocopy of each document. Certified English translation of such copies should also be submitted, if they are in a different language.

15. Can I change my University/ College after coming to India?

You need to mention the name of the Institute while applying for the visa, which is then mentioned on the visa. A request for change of university or institution subsequently made cannot be considered. In this case you would be required to go back to your home country and apply for a new visa.

16. Can I get my tourist visa converted to a Student Visa?

If you come to India on tourist or any other type of visa, you cannot get this visa changed to Student Visa. According to government regulations, if an international student coming to India on a tourist or any other type of visa (except a Student/Research Visa), obtains admission into a university or any institution in India, the student will be required to return to his/her home country and obtain a new visa (i.e. the Student/Research Visa) from the Indian mission there.
