The responsibilities of the Dean, Students’ Welfare are to:
- Monitor day-to-day essential support required for academic and co-curricular activities of students
- Arrange for special care for the weaker and needy sections of students
- Prepare plan and execute programmes for holistic development of the students
- Nominate student representatives to various bodies of the University in consultation
- Facilitate conduct of elections to the UoH Students’ Union
- Co-ordinate with the Office of the Chief Warden in the smooth functioning of the hostels
- Advise Students’ Union as and when required
- Enable and facilitate conduct of sports and cultural events on the campus
- Co-ordinate with the Director of Sports, Cultural Officer etcetera for all matters related to students’ Welfare
- Depute students to participate events/programmes outside the University
- Keep in touch with the guardians as and when required.
- Co-ordinate with the Chief Proctor on matters related to students’ discipline in the University.
Two Deputy Deans, Students’ Welfare work with the DSW in co-ordinating the activities of the office.
The Office of the Dean, Students’ Welfare primarily looks after the welfare of the students with active support from the elected representatives of the students, faculty and other functionaries of the administration. The multiple tasks of DSW include: facilitating the conduct of student union elections and thereby encourage leadership, democracy and tolerance among students besides enabling participation in decision making; organize necessary support and care for students requiring medical aid and we coordinate with CMO; facilitate interactions between different student groups and promote understanding and mutual respect; encourage participation in extracurricular activities; suggest the Vice-Chancellor on matters that enable comfortable stay of students on campus; and recommend to the Vice Chancellor on expenditure of student aid fund, emergency medical aid and students’ welfare fund, facilitates students insurance, providing psychological counselling support to the students through professional counselors and Counseling unit, facilitates smooth functioning of provision of fellowships and scholarships to the students.
Fresher’s Meet and Orientation/induction:
The office of the DSW organizes orientation to fresher’s through induction programmes to the entire set of freshers as well as at individual department orientation programmes soon after the admissions for the academic year. In the common orientation the freshers are addressed by the Deans/Heads of different schools/Departments/Centres, the Chief Medical Officer; Librarian; Chairperson, ICC earlier GS(CASH); Chairperson, Proctorial Board; Chief Warden; Health Insurance Officials, Students’ Counselors and are informed of the central facilities in the university besides the facilities in the respective Schools/Departments/Centres. The Vice-Chancellor delivers the address on this occasion as the Chief Guest.
