India is well known as an education hub attracting international students from all over the world. Its robust education system, set against a rich diversity and vibrant culture and history, offers students a broad range of options, and as a rapidly growing country with a technological edge, it has much to offer whether in engineering, computing, the arts, philosophy, political science or the classics.
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) administers various scholarship programmes and awards about 3000+ scholarships each year under 26 schemes to students from about 140 countries. Some schemes are funded by ICCR from its own grant; the others are administered on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of AYUSH. Scholarships are offered for undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD studies, and each academic year about 6000+ ICCR scholars study at central and state universities, institutes, NITs and agricultural institutions across India.
As a step towards “Digital India”, ICCR developed the Admissions to Alumni (A2A) portal to streamline enrolment. Launched on 17 January 2018 by the then External Affairs Minister, the late Smt. Sushma Swaraj, it has handled ICCR scholarship applications since the academic year 2018–19. The portal has all the information on ICCR-sponsored scholarship schemes, including the Indian universities, the courses they offer and the scheme guidelines.
