Study in India (SII)

Ministry of Education, Government of India

The Study in India (SII) programme is a flagship project of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The SII portal was launched on 18 April 2018 by the then Union Minister of External Affairs, the late Smt. Sushma Swaraj, and the then Minister of State for HRD, Dr Satya Pal Singh, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The programme promotes India as a prime education hub, inviting international students to pursue higher education in the country’s top universities.

An added advantage of the programme is quality assurance: it partners only with institutions that

  • hold NAAC accreditation with a score of 3.26 or above, or
  • are ranked among the top 100 in any category except medical in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), or
  • have the status of an Institute of National Importance (INI) or Institution of Eminence (IoE).

NAAC is an autonomous body established by the UGC; NIRF is the framework set out by the Ministry of Education in 2015 to rank Indian higher education institutions on parameters such as teaching and learning, infrastructure and learning resources. As the programme matures, its aim is to reach every international student who dreams of a top-notch higher education, and to help them not only gain admission to the finest institutions but also develop all round.

Apply through the Study in India portal

Deadlines and eligibility are given on the SII portal. All international students admitted to the University must also register on the portal before arriving in India.
