Geographic Information System (GIS) Laboratory
Vision
To impart knowledge, skills and apply spatial analysis to fundamental research questions and implementation programs of Development Studies and Planning, Human Geography, Women and Gender Studies and wide range of Social Science, Humanities and Sciences disciplines.
Objectives
- To provide key knowledge and training on GIS applications to the academic community (students and faculty) of the University of Hyderabad and across the country.
- To provide services for GIS application in research, education and implementation programs on demand; subject to funds, human resource and time availability.
- To develop the GIS laboratory into a Database Centre that creates, manages, analyses and stores spatial data for various research and development applications.
The GIS laboratory, set up in 2022 has been sponsored by The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) – The German Agency for International Cooperation, to Dr. Sheela Suryanarayanan as the Principal Investigator under The Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM), Returning Expert program, within the School of Social Science, University of Hyderabad. The training and software has been provided by Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI), India.
